Holiday Cheer!

I tried to entitle this post "Christmas in July", but Jackson wasn't on board with that. It seems fitting seeing as we are just now sharing our Christmas memories of 2008 in May of 2009. In the Sherwood home the real Christmas celebration begins after all the birthday celebrating ends. Our December was filled with snow a total of 24" to be exact. Our area is not equipped for such so we had a few more snow days, times when I didn't know when we would see the road in front of our house again, and moments when I wished we still had our vehicle with four wheel drive. The Sienna just wasn't going to cut it. Just the same the kids and I had a great time staying at home relaxing in our jammies drinking hot chocolate not feeling the rush of needing to be anywhere. There was one day that we were in our pajamas still at dinner time. When I told Carter it was time for dinner he laughed and said, " Mom, we can't eat dinner we're still in our pajamas!" We did make intermittent trips out to sled and build snowmen, but we learned quickly that Jeff has a much greater endurance for playing in the winter wonderland with the kids than I. On Christmas day, he carved out penguin slides that the boys slid down on with their bellies.
Christmas Eve was our day to take advantage of semi drivable roads. We took the kids to see Tale of Desperaux. The kids really enjoyed the movie and being out of the house. We made gingerbread cookies for Santa afterwards followed by a yummy Japanese meal compliments of our Japanese chef (Jeff). These are the days to truly remember! Christmas day was more fun memories playing with new gifts, playing outside in the snow, talking to grandmas, grandpas, aunts and uncles, and taking the time to remember the birth of our Savior. We miss having family nearby to celebrate with, but appreciate having dear friends to share special holidays such as these with. Merry Christmas 2008!!!
